AI Faith & Civil Society Commissioners reflect on 2025 strategy

The AI Faith & Civil Society Commission met recently to focus on developing its strategy for 2025. In a highly positive and future-facing session held in person in London in October 2024, the commissioners agreed a number of priorities.

The first half of the meeting updated the commissioners on the different workstreams of the Commission, which include five upcoming events: a roundtable of people of faith working in tech; a film screening; a roundtable about the EU AI Act; a parliamentary event with the AI APPG); and a lecture in Oxford with Bishop Croft, which will all take place in the coming few months.

The Commission has released a new video interview series: hosted by Commissioner Rabbi Harris Bor, in which he speaks to tech entrepreneurs about their products and how they relate to faith matters.

Commissioners shared insights from their participation at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) recently, at Bradford Literature Festival, at UK FoRB Forum and work on events discussing the intersection of AI and hate speech/remembrance.

The second half of the meeting reflected on next steps and a vision for 2025. Commissioners are considering ways of expanding the civic society representatives it engages with, how they can apply AI Ethics in practice and tangible ways, deepen the message around human flourishing and expand the mission statement.
