“Treat us like humans” – asylum seekers ask to be made to feel more welcome in UK
“Treat us like humans” – asylum seekers ask to be made to feel more at home in the UK in this report from Good Faith Partnership and NACCOM, the No Accommodation Network.
Funded by the Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales, a project called Welcoming Mayors run by GFP, NACCOM and other partners since 2023, interviewed 30 asylum seekers about their experiences of arriving and trying to settle in the UK.
Among the report’s recommendations are a “humanitarian approach” to accommodation and more welcoming local services including employment and training opportunities, English language teaching, support for education applications, transport and financial support.
