The Consecration of the King's Coronation Oil
The Chrism Oil, which played a significant role in anointing His Majesty The King during the coronation ceremony on May 6th, 2023, was consecrated in a momentous ceremony held in Jerusalem.
The initiative to create a new oil specifically for the coronation was spearheaded by the Archbishop of Canterbury, with a twofold purpose: to pay homage to the King's personal ties with Jerusalem and to emphasize the profound links between the coronation ceremony, the scriptures, and the sacred land itself.
This sacred ceremony unfolded within the hallowed walls of The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, one of Christianity's most revered sites. The oil was consecrated under the joint auspices of His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III, the Patriarch of Jerusalem, and The Most Reverend Hosam Naoum, the Anglican Archbishop in Jerusalem.
The Good Faith Partnership supported the Patriarch of Jerusalem, and the Anglican Archbishop in Jerusalem and facilitated the process honouring the traditions and spiritual underpinnings of the coronation ceremony.
