The Bloom Review: One Year On
In early May 2024, the Woolf Institute and Wesley House Cambridge hosted a conference entitled: ‘The Bloom Review: One Year On’, which sought to assess the findings of the Bloom Review, what it missed, and where we are now, a year later.
The Bloom Review was an independent review of how government engages with faith by Colin Bloom, independent faith engagement adviser.
Expert panellists at the May conference included Dr Jonathan Chaplin, Dr Stephen Baker, Prof Jhatti-Johal, and Shaykh Ibrahim Mogra. Representing Good Faith Partnership in the final panel, Mohammed Ahmed shared his panel with Dr Madeleine Pennington (Head of Research at Theos) and Prof Robert Beckford (Professor of Climate and Social Justice, University of Winchester).
Their panel addressed what the Bloom Review missed. Mohammed spoke on alternative strategies to educate Muslim communities, highlighting his work at the Good Faith Partnership and Forum for Peace on bringing the Marrakesh Declaration to Muslim communities in the UK, illustrating how the declaration interprets Islamic law to advocate for the rights of non-Muslims in Muslim societies.
The first roundtable took place at Makkah Mosque in Leeds, and is the precursor to more roundtables, which are bringing the Marrakesh declaration to life in the UK.
